What clearer message about awareness and healing could be sent than a "blue ribbon?"

This will be the reaction, owing to the fact that a lot of people think nothing less than the shuttering of the program should suffice. I don't particularly share that view myself, I think the penalties were adequate, but the entire existence of PSU football is going to be a sore spot for the next two to four to however many years.

Nah, because JoePa Nation will make it a badge of honor to never wear any of the new stuff.

They will wear old JoePa unis for 50 years to show their undying loyalty.

Penn State loses another commit and it's probably the biggest one so far — OL Dorian Johnson, a four-star among the tops at his position and a top 10 talent in Pennsylvania. Now nine members in the recruiting class and that means right now there are 69 players projected for the 2013 season.

At what point does this absurdity just become worthy of laughter?

    http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/former-penn-state-players-appeal-ncaa-sanctions-sex-abuse-scandal-080712

A group of former Penn State players, led by former quarterback Michael Robinson, has notified the NCAA that it intends to appeal the harsh sanctions placed upon the football program for the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.

Paul V. Kelly, an attorney for former Nittany Lions quarterback Michael Robinson and seven others who played for Penn State at some point during the 14 seasons in which the NCAA vacated victories, sent an intent to appeal letter to the NCAA dated Aug. 7.

Can't find it now but I think it was Ralph Russo who tweeted today that he was filing an appeal with the NCAA over the Penn State penalties because "I have as much standing as everybody else who has..."

Anyone who was affected has a right to have their say.

Whether the sanctions were fair or not, I can't help but think Penn State and the NCAA rushed the entire process. Most of their other investigations seem to take years and maybe more if there is an appeal. This seemed like a rush job in order to make headlines and score PR points.

Anyone can say whatever they want. Those without standing have no grounds to appeal. Does the next appeal come from a waitress or hotel housekeeper?

Child rape isn't that big of a deal for some, as I recall reading that somewhere.

Not through the legal system they don't. First they'd have to prove standing, a mighty tall feat indeed if it's just a group of former players.
