Sounds like Peetz is going to do some arm twisting. Good luck getting a board of 32 to agree on anything.

Here's a quote that doesn't bode well for the new coaching staff. Maybe Royer just wasn't ready to "punch back" ...

The best thing any Penn State player has said so far. Good on him.

I think it won't be too hard to get 17 (or 22 or 24) of them to agree if the alternative is a penalty much worse than what they're getting already.

A university board of trustees voting to defy NCAA sanctions would be a direct shot across the bow, which could not be tolerated.

Back away from the railing, people.

Yeah, even the most die-hard JoePa apologist and BWI-worshipping football sycophant on the board will have to think long and hard at the prospect of his/her opposition to these penalties possibly resulting in a true beat-down by the NCAA.

The current penalties are definitely not insignificant, but they may be absolutely nothing when compared to what a pissed-off NCAA would do in response.

This meeting should have taken place prior to the sanctions coming down.

I don't think there's any way in hell they vote to fight the penalties. This is nothing more than a dog-and-pony show for the masses.

Unless the crazy is really on the loose in State College, they will allow the 3-4 lunatic-fringers to make their ceremonial votes to challenge/appeal/defy the sanctions, everybody else will get up and say "the entire episode is a tragedy for all concerned," and the final vote will go into the books as 28-4.

From everything I've read, the NCAA gave Erickson literally a couple hours to agree to the sanctions, or face a multi-season death penalty.

Except that if you believe what's been reported, Emmert didn't give them that opportunity.

Now, I don't have a problem with the penalties but the NCAA hasn't exactly covered itself in glory in this process.

That's my point. Emmert should have given them their say and The NCAA should have given him the time to do that. Full Trustee approval would have given the sanctions greater validation.

Instead he went the "And if you mention extortion again, I'll have your legs broken" route.

Since when do sanctions require the validation of the transgressors?
