That's true. But you have to give them room and not stalk them like Hamlet's ghost, waiting for one to pose next to a statue or wear a "We are pissed off" shirt just so you can paint them all with the "See? They just don't get it!!!" brush.

Let's say you have an uncle or a kid who does a terrible thing.

You go through your shock, denial and anger. You think you're ready to accept and move on.

But people keep coming up to you, day after day, telling you. "Your kid is shit. Your kid is shit. Your kid is shit."

You know he did bad things. You feel terrible about it. But you really get fucking tired of hearing it all the time and don't think you should spend the rest of your life begging the public to forgive you for your relationship toward this person.

So you might "punch back." It doesn't make you flawed or blind to what happened or uncaring toward any victims. It just makes you human.

Many of these people don't believe that their "kid did bad things." Many believe their kid is perfectly innocent and are blaming the neighbor kids for getting their precious angel in trouble. They believe their kid is a scapegoat.

Exactly. That, and when exactly was the moment that Penn State and its supporters shut up for five seconds and stopped with the idiotic excuse-making and punching back? I can't speak for everybody, but at least on this board, it seems like a very large part of the "Your kid is shit" is sparked by the Penn State apologists refusing to stop whining or fighting back.

Look at this last exchange. Drip comes on here bragging about some kid transferring to Penn State. That is where this latest exchange started.

The kid analogy fails all around. That's the point. You're supposed to care that much about and defend your family.

This is a football team. The misplaced passion and sense of belonging is weird in and of itself.

Bragging? All I posted was that an Akron player from Pennsylvania getting a chance to play at his home state school.

You say that as if it is a good thing that he is jumping into that mess.

And to be fair, this was a "preferred walk-on" at Akron who wasn't even invited to the preseason camp there. That he's being welcomed with open arms and a scholarship (after paying his own way this year) at a school that is having its scholarships slashed is very indicative of the shape Penn State is in right now.

No . . . you're supposed to be honest and want to do the RIGHT thing, DESPITE family/friend/etc. ties. That's what makes it so bleeping hard and why 99 percent of people cannot meet that standard.

"I believe Jerry Sandusky should receive the most cruel punishment possible, but if it was my kid who did those things I would fight for the most lenient sentence possible" may be what most people would do . . . but it sure as hell isn't what you are SUPPOSED to do.

And if "caring and defending your family" is what we are SUPPOSED to do, why are we spending so much energy ripping Sandusky's wife and the Paterno family?

    A preferred walk-on a 1-11 team.

Should also be noted Zips have a new coach this year in Terry Bowden.
