I agree. If she speculates that there are valid bases for an appeal, and she's right, I don't care if she's an eighth-grade dropout.

Now, that said, I would like to actually see what her valid bases are. Right now, she's way too vague.

What do you do so I can dismiss your opinions on everything else?

It doesn't get much sillier than rando on a message board dismissing ANYONE on social media because they lack expertise in a given area.

I've watched a TON of Law & Order so I just thought it was an interesting question. He's obviously not going to get away with his crimes but it could be the kind of thing that gets him a new trial.

Maybe. I just don't know what "unfair treatment" entails. What unfair treatment? What law was violated? What do the cases say? You can't just appeal based on general unfairness.

I would not expect anyone to give my opinion on courtroom proceedings any weight whatsoever.

Damn, people are losing their shit around this place over the tiniest little things these days.

I will have to read the judge's comments or view them myself, but I will say as a general matter, one thing that makes my heart swell about the court system in general is the dignity with which every human being who walks through there is treated with. For some of these people, I imagine it is the first time they have been treated that way in their lives.

That said, sentencing is a bit of a different animal. At that point, you're sitting in judgment, by definition. Again, I didn't read the transcript, but in a lot of cases, a judge wants a clear record of why the defendant deserved a high-end sentence, to show that he did not abuse his discretion. I can see where it might sound like grandstanding, but there's a purpose for it.

Eh, this tangent doesn't even make the top 100 on my Losing My Shit List.

It's pretty much a life sentence, and the judge said as much. If she gave him life, as some of the victims advocated, he could have withdrawn from his plea deal and forced a new trial. He's already got a sixty year sentence for child porn, and another case is still in progress against him. He's in the slam till he croaks, unless they take mercy on his eighty-seven year old dying of cancer ass.

If he goes to genpop, I'm betting he gets fucked to death in rather short order.
