Bad lawyering. Or perhaps Arkansas lawyering.

How about Tori Black? Will she do until we see a grainy cell phone shot of Jessica Dorrell (no more than a SIX) posing in front of a bathroom mirror?

    Or perhaps no case.

I have no idea, not being involved in the situation. Just saying.

I didn't see where there was much of a case to be made for her being wronged to pay out in terms of big dollars.

Personally, I think she's making the smarter play and quietly moving on and trying to re-build her life. As it stands, she's the young woman who helped bring down a football program (or at least retard its current course) by spreading her legs, with a married man, while engaged to be married herself. A public lawsuit only perpetuates that current jezebel persona. My feeling is she doesn't want to be the 'mistress of the ex-football coach' as you see her referred to currently, and if that is the case, good for her for trying to put this all behind her and re-start her reputation, personally, and professionally somewhere else.

She'll be in Playboy before October.

I'd think there probably was a case to be made for squeezing a few extra dollars out of it in exchange for an agreement to shut up and not pose for Playboy for at least six months or so.

She was an employee who likely was entitled to remain employed until just cause arose. That means she could keep her job, with an expectation of continued employment. $14,000? That's what 3 mos.? Its not about being wronged until they force her out. She was not an at-will employee who could be terminated for any reason, therefore had a vested interest in continued employment.

As for bringing down a program, you're blaming someone who had no responsibility for the "program." Its Petrino's fault, the AD's fault, the HR dept.'s fault, she was simply the conduit for their collective fault.

Call it for what it is, the "program" was brought down because its coach failed to follow the employment rules, the "moral" code, and most importantly lied about it to everyone after the fact.

It appears that its now that people have become so desensitized that there is this simple acceptance that the main culprit was corrupt/a liar and the main outrage gets leveled on the ancillary people, the mistress, the kid who took the money, etc. As the venom is released on those ancillary characters, the main person simply is let off the hook.

Hunh? Gonna take a little bit of a victory lap on this one as one of the posters who explained how/why Ms. Dorrell had no case. How is the "main person" (Petrino) "let off the hook"? He is out his job, his reputation, and his umpteen millions. (to which I say, good, he deserves to be out all of those things).
But, again, this young woman (probably) used unfair advantages to get a job over people that were clearly more qualified then her. Bringing this type of embarrassment to the university is probably cause for discharge. Most of these type jobs are at the whim of whoever the head coach is. (otherwise, why aren't more head coaches stuck with whoever is there).
One last point: University could have simply said to Ms. Dorrell: See you at work on Monday. Doubt she really had much interest in this job now. So, yeah, they had leverage too.

It's not that she got the job over more qualified people. The job didn't exist until Petrino invented it to give his side girl a cushy payday and access for a little midday run and shoot.
