Wow. I don't know who I expected them to pick for this year, but wow.

This either gets the AD a lifetime contract or a ticket out of town, based on this one year.

If Smith wins 10, then he keeps the job, with a substantial pay raise.

If Arkansas goes 7-5, then Smith is out, with Long likely to get chopped as well.

AP Little Rock (Kurt Voight) is now reporting John L Smith as well.

I don't think Long gets fired over this hire. Going the interim route was absolutely the right thing to do in this situation. They'll have a much better pool of candidates to pick from in December.

Arkansas hired Petrino's mentor to replace him. And Smith left his alma mater without coaching a single game there.

    Delicious.

Be interesting to see what John L does without the Perles hovering over him.

Even more ironically, Smith was the one Petrino replaced at Louisville after Smith dragged his feet on telling his players he was going to Sparty.

The only name that would've been better in a karmic sense would've been (Arkansas native) Tommy Tuberville. This coaching tree has very few branches, doesn't it?

I don't think Tubs would have taken the Arkansas gig on a 10-month contract like Smith.

Really says something about his commitment to Weber State, eh?

Whatever the reaction is, it's strong. Hogville crashed again.

Well, Smith is 63. This will be his last (and only) shot at a BCS job.

John L. probably doubled his salary for the year, of course he was going to say yes.

No but he would certainly take it after this season.

    So would Gus Malzahn.

And Arkansas fans may be the most delusional in the SEC. John Gruden was not walking through that door. Neither was Sean Payton.
