Coincidentally, Dennis Franchione has been running up his Anytime minutes this weekend.

When the relationship started, how long it lasted and when it broke off will be the keys to what Long does next.

If it was a one-time thing, when she was working for the foundation and wasn't a student then Long has an out. I think the mindset is they want to keep Petrino but need to find a reason. Not that they want to get rid of him and find a reason to pull the trigger.

It is a helluva mess no matter what.

Interestingly enough the affair goes against the narrative and common perception of Petrino. That he is an asshole completely devoted to football. The kind of coach who sleeps in his office and works 20 hour days during the season and expects his staff to do the same. How much of that was cover?

The other thing is the school has completely changed since Long and Petrino showed up. What used to be one of the most open campuses in the country went into lockdown mode because that was the way Bobby wanted it. No media availability, closed practices. Some cheered. After the amiable goofball that was Nutt and the good ol' boy ways of Frank Broyles, the school needed a brashing dash of professionalism. The kind of professionalism that Long and Petrino seemed to bring.

That might still be the case for Long, but Petrino looks all the world to be a professional liar with commitment issues who explodes bridges. Everywhere he had been before, people knew that, but Arkansas, desperate to be a player, hired him and said people like Pat Forde were idiots who held grudges.

Prophets might be a better word.

For those who think Petrino doesn't get fired (and I'm changing my vote to him getting shitcanned), what do you think happens with Dorrell and her fiancé?

Petrino and Dorrell can't both keep their jobs. Do they fire her for sleeping with Petrino? Pay her off to go away quietly? And I can't imagine the fiancé working in the same athletic department as either Petrino or Dorrell. Do they fire him or pay him off to go away quietly just because he was engaged to a whore?

Tough to imagine, but the swimming director of operations may have a better chance of keeping his job than Petrino.

People who think they can't fire him because the Hogs are 21-5 over the last two seasons are out of their minds.

They can find another guy as good as him.

The university has to fire both of them. Otherwise, the cloud of this hovers over the program all season and, for the bottom line, the school will have major exposure for any state worker fired for the same issue.

I saw a column calling for the hiring of Gus Malzahn. I am all for this.

Why would they necessarily have to fire her? He was in the position of power in the relationship. She didn't put a gun to his head to make him hire her.

Too much of a distraction within the athletic department. Each time someone sees her, that is the first thing that will come to their minds.

Pay her off for a year or two and get her (and him) out.

I meant had to fire her by rule or statute, not whether they had to fire her to get rid of a distraction.

How about because her only qualifications for the job was that she was fucking the person in charge of the hiring?

If they fire her I could see a nice sexual harassment lawsuit on the horizon.
Petrino was in a position of power and took advantage of a subordinate.

Not what I believe but certainly a good attorney could make a decent case.
