Well, that is not automatic to assume. I'm sure her lawyer could put forth all kinds of qualifications that would make her plausibly qualified for the job, and she actually could be.

The point I'm trying to make, which keeps being missed, is that I don't think the rules of employment say she absolutely has to be fired; she was not in the position of power.

All of his actions in this whole sordid episode are completely in line with the common perception that he's a self-absorbed asshole.

Maybe the "common perception" needs to be adjusted. Belichick affair went against expectations also.

Sure. They can find someone easily. It's not like this has been the best two year stretch since the late 1980s.

Someone has to go (they can't both stay in their current jobs), and if it's the person who was in the subordinate position in a potential sexual harassment case, and one with so much extra baggage attached, the lawyers will be lined up for miles wanting to speak with the young woman.

The University of Arkansas has no idea how much, in 2015, it will wish it had let Petrino go in April 2012 if it does not do so. Keeping him is like seeing the poison symbol on a bottle, shrugging, opening it and drinking it anyway.

Hog fans would be livid if Petrino is fired. How many coaches in America can consistently field the third-best team in their division?

The woman involved won't be fired; however, she will quickly land a new, much better paying job at a local company owned by a major pig booster.

Depends on what the full facts are. You do the investigation to find out when it started, when it ended, and all the gory details in between. Everything really is up in the air right now because once they finish digging they might find it's just too much dirt to sweep under the rug. On the other hand, if it's a situation where everyone can be made happy with a little money, a different position within the department until they can move on (college athletics is a very transient business anyway), then they determine what that resolution that makes everyone happy is.

All of this sidewalk lawyering on the thread is laughable. If she's happy, hubby's happy, Bobby's happy, the AD's happy, and the president is satisfied, they can do pretty much whatever they want, wrap it up in a confidential settlement agreement and it will have no impact on anyone else in the world. I guessed he won't be fired because he won 11 games last year and it seems everyone has acted quickly to get their arms around the situation where they possibly can keep him. I don't think it's a certainty he'll stay.

I think it'll depend on the facts revealed in the investigation and the attitudes of those involved. As in The Wire, going the easy way rather than the hard way can have its benefits. Should he be fired? Almost without a doubt he should. Will he be? We shall see.

This reminded me of Conan's "In the year 2000" bits.

Thank you for putting that falsetto voice back in my head. It took me about 10 years to forget it.

    (sigh)

    :p
