I don't want to derail an entertaining thread but as an institution the Catholic Church forfeited its right to be a moral compass with their handling of the sexual abuse scandals.

That being said I have seen firsthand a lot of their great work in different parts of the world.

I've done neither (I've been with exactly one person my whole life and hope to God that never changes), but I think there's a major gulf between someone making a mistake while at a bar during a business trip versus carrying on a series of intimate relationships that involve a level of subterfuge and deception that would make John Le Carre blush.

About 10 years ago, my wife and I had a discussion about what we would do if we ever had an affair. We both agreed at the time that we wouldn't want the other person to tell us about it if a) it was a one-time thing, b) it was never going to happen again and c) the other person could deal with having cheated and move on without the guilt ruining the relationship. However, if it was a long-term affair vs. a one-night stand, we would absolutely want to know. (I don't know if the conversation would go the same way now - bringing kids into the equation ups the emotional ante on anything, especially something like that. Also, I'm pretty sure I'd never see my privates again if I tried to talk to my wife about a one-night stand.)

It's backed by the Colossians 3:
"Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord".

It's always funny to see this gospel read at church. You see husbands poking their wives and nodding and the wife just glares.

That was a very interesting article. I still remember much of it months later.

But I have a hard time believing it will be taken seriously or have a great effect on American society coming from a man who, with his gay partner, has decided that they can each find other gay men to discreetly see on the side. There isn't a whole lot of "hey that's me" that will look relevant to the questions that come up between a husband and a wife.

It's too bad, because it does touch on quite a few things that people probably should consider if only as a cautionary tale within their own relationships.

Sounds like BS to me. I don't recall that in our dog-and-pony show counseling session.

And if you have half-a-brain in your head, even if you are a devoted Catholic, you realize that deriving martial/sexual advice from a church where celibacy is codified is insane in the extreme.

Lugnuts/Carebear - is it possible for a man to try at his marriage, but get zero response from his wife?
