The Braves are not the same thing, though, because they are a team. Also, because they blew the 1996 World Series.

I agree. If the Colts win and Manning has a stat line like he did against the Ravens, then he will still be hated on. The key in my mind is for Manning to have a big game and the Colts win, or even better for Manning would be him leading a late drive like he did against the Patriots.

    It won't matter.

No one will remember, with his slaying of Brady and a Lombardi in Indy.

    Anyway, besides the point.

    22-31, 297 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT

  4. Or even better he'll cure cancer during halftime ... then everyone will see the greatness that is Peyton Manning ... muhahahahaha

I don't even like Manning that much, I just feel bad for him because I see the parrallels with ARod.
So, what have we learned from your posts? You don't like him. No matter what he does tomorrow, you will continue to hate him? and He has to cure cancer for you to even give him a shred of hope. Of course, then you would probably just say, "Well, Peyton Manning cured cancer, but he didn't cure AIDS, and that proves he can't win the big one and isn't the greatest quarterback ever."

But the point, as was very well made by Chahida, is that five or ten years from now people don't remember how they won, just that they did. No-one remembers whether Elway played well or badly when he won his two Super Bowls, they remember the helicopter play and that he won. And barely anyone thinks about how he played in his three losses, or even the losses themselves.

Everything will get overanalysed tomorrow, but as time passes, people care less about the details and more about the score.

Parallels with A-Rod? No way! Manning is the best at what he does, A-Rod just happens to be the highest paid at what he does. He's not even the best player on his team.

    Inarguable among the sane.

By far the best player on his team.

  10. I'm not a hater. I promise I'm not even rooting against him. I'm poking fun at the fact that it's obvious from your posts you're rooting for him ... not just to win but to fulfill your prophecy that he is the best ever - "even better for Manning would be him leading a late drive like he did against the Patriots" - to be honest I'm really curious how he does and it's true a great game will really cement a great career.

But to address the other guy in here, a championship does not make you infallible, especially to columnists.

Ok, that is a good post.

Most of that is spot on GB. Past differences aside, that is good stuff.

    Couple of things though:

1.) The Colts were a better team this year & the reason the Pats were in the game early was turnovers

2.) The Pats & Hoody choked

3.) Tony D, JA, O-line & D had a lot to do with win as well.

4.) That being said so did PM & he deserves his share of the props you are giving.

However, conversely by that logic he is also going to share some blame (monkey?) if the colts lose. It will stick to him & diminish his stature - it just will.

Ask yourself this how do people think of Troy Aikman or Joe Montana vs. say Jim Kelly, or Dan Marino?

Stats are really great and all for the statboys, but in the end championships matter most & anyone who knows anything knows that.

Also remember that PM is in a dif league so to speak. We all know how insane his stats are. So, in a way PM is competing against PM (how good he could/should be, what his potential is). Don't you see by him having those insane stats it makes his not winning a major title until now or a SB loom EVEN larger and create bigger Q's for him. That is just common sense after all.

It would be if I were a sprinter and ran a 1/2 second quicker in the 100M than everyone else in practice & small meets but never won a big meet. After a while people would be like - something is wrong with him, this guy chokes. That is much dif than a guy with average speed who wins average races and loses the big races. That is normal.

So, I agree with you & SI that for the most part PM is a top-tier QB & just needs to keep doing what he does. In large part what happens in this game (or any game) is out of his control. So, don't worry & do your best - just do your thing.

But he will be judged by the whole pic, they all are. That is just how it is. People remember who wins, not what the box score is or who came in second.

Again, PM WILL go to Canton & IS great the question is how great & on that score PM is competing against PM and other greats. Don't be mad - it is actually a compliment to him.

But good post - I like that take.
