Get as much of that crap off as you can before leaving the driveway. There's little more dangerous than big chunks of snow or ice flying off a vehicle and hitting another on the road because someone was too lazy to get that crap of their own machine before going out.

It's even worse behind tractor-trailers. You get behind a southbound one that was in some weather back north, and you're cruising for a bruising.

Truck drivers can be issued tickets for failure to remove those slabs of snow and ice just as easily as mere citizens.

Going for a walk this morning in the 5 degree weather with icy streets was a “what harm could the second gummy do?” level of poor decision making.

Could have helped me pull significant sycamore limbs to the front curb instead.

And, admittedly, I might actually put on sweats and gloves next time I go out. It's getting that raw and bitter.

We counted 115 cars in the median, ditch or on the shoulder on I-80 today between Iowa City and Council Bluffs, plus another 20 on the 15-mile I-380 stretch between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.

Glad we delayed our travels until today.

Careful. The slightest mishit when the temps are down like this are magnified. They hurt a lot more than just one's ego.

The problem with driving in this weather is just because you have four-wheel drive, doesn't mean everyone does. We're now in the 50s out here.

Just got home from the airport, Micro Jr. made it home, only two days late. Probably a good thing he didn't come yesterday, because no way was I driving anywhere when the roads were sheets of ice.

Be sure to check your elder neighbors today, and do what you can to get your local unhoused indoors.

    Thanks!
