They've put out some alerts for strong winds ahead of the storms as well, which I'm not sure I've seen before. There's a golf tournament scheduled for Tuesday morning that I'm pretty certain will get postponed, but if they do play we might see people hitting 500 yard drives on the front nine and 25 yard drives on the back nine.

About a decade ago a tropical storm came close to Cape Cod. It was Labor Day weekend and my son and his college roommate were there. Because we are men and stupid, we went to the municipal 9-holer to play.It was instructive. On the second hole, an uphill par four, my son, who is way bigger and stronger than me, used an eight-iron for a 140 yard approach with the wind. He went over the green, over the rough in back, and over the 5th fairway into the woods on right of that hole. Call it like 240-260 yards. Having the honor on the next hole, a 135 yard par-three into the wind. I hit driver. I made perfect contact and only would up 40 yards short of the flag. Then the rain came and we fled to the clubhouse.

This is the same system that will cause a few rumbles here in the predawn hours Tuesday. It's all about timing. When it hits in the heat of the day it'll be stronger.

But the season is coming when storms fire up on the plains and come rolling in overnight. It happens frequently in the spring in the I-35 corridor. Got awakened by one at 6 a.m. the very first morning I woke up as a Texas resident.

Every time I click on this thread, I’m pissed off that I don’t see a Progressive insurance ad because it just reeks of people turning into their parents.

I would love to see one of the good billionaires hire all the fired NOAA people and start their own weather service for the good of all man kind.
