Don't disagree with Alma, one bit. But the author's obvious prejudices "in favor" devalued the overall work.

“I will say this — I think there has been a lot online about this book,” Mr. Karp said. “And I’m amazed by some of the vitriol with regard to Joe Posnanski, who is a truly gifted writer. People can pass all the judgment they want about Joe Paterno, but Joe Posnanski deserves a chance to be read.”

He must have been reading this thread. That sums it up for me.

Code for don't get your hopes up that it will gloss over the Sandusky scandal.

Karp's company is the one that is pulling back on publicity. This is the biggest story in the nation and they pointedly do NOT want anyone to know about the book. That says a hell of a lot more than any whiny blame-the-media quote he can give.

I'd like to know what vitriol with regard to Joe Posnanski he is talking about?

At least on this site, people know Posnanski is a gifted writer. In fact, I'd venture to say he is one of the most respected, well-liked and admired-for-his-work writers who is ever mentioned on here.

What is/will be needed for a Paterno book, however, has turned into something other than what Posnanski would typically offer, and people here have assessed and discussed this frankly. But if this guy is referring to this online site, I'd suggest that what has been posted here is hardly vitriol.

It would be interesting to me, and, I'm sure, to Simon and Schuster, to know how many non-subscription copies of this edition of SI are sold.

Both the hard numbers and the percentage of increase or decrease -- could this subject actually even be a turnoff at this point? -- as compared to other typical weeks would be pertinent.
