If memory serves, it was the Tribune who tried to hire Poz a few years back...

    I enjoyed Greenstein's column...

NO manager in modern times has been a bigger pick-your-own whore than Torre. It's no contest.

Poking fun at other cities is so Woody Paige. Oh, and I'm sure Pos wrote the column "to make a name for himself.'' Give me a fucking break

Nice work by Greenstein. He and Cowley are friends, so it's nice to see that didn't get in the way of his thoughts on this matter.

  7. With all due respect to Posnanski, this particular column was pretty much redolent of holiday-week-blowoff, too.

Teddy Greenstein's column fell short.  He let Ozzie Guillen have it, but he pulled his punches when it came to Joe Cowley. Greenstein left it ambiguous as to who was intimating that Joe Posnanski was "trying to make a name for himself."  It wasn't Guillen that made that claim, it was Joe Cowley. If you're going to directly criticize Guillen for his reaction to Posnanski's column, than also do the same with Joe Cowley for becoming fanboy. Most people here didn't have a problem with either the Posnanski column or Guillen's reaction, but they did with Cowley's editorializing.  Greenstein pulled his punches for one of his own.

  9. Greenstein's column was just another cleverly disguised shot at Mariotti. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Posnanski's quote at the end was the money shot. "The best thing to do is talk to Ozzie one on one. I'll see him at the All-Star game and talk to him face to face."

I laughed out loud when I read that. This Greenstein is clever.

On second read, you are right.

Cowley's a popular guy and owns that clubhouse.

It isn't Guillen's job to make the Royals and their fans feel all warm and fuzzy about their All-Star selection. Guillen explained it, clear as a bell, he needed arms. So he picked the "best" Royal arm available. The Royals are the shittiest team in the league, by a landslide, I don't see where you come off demanding a better selection for your team.

Very flawed column by Posnanski in the first place.

Last I checked the All-Star game was supposed to be for the league's best players. Since KC has none there "best" player should have been taken. That was Posnanski's point. Did Guillen rob KC fans probably not. Does anyone from KC deserve to be in the All-Star game? No. So looking back maybe Pos should have avoided the column because it's really not a great arguement b/c every Royal should be on a three-day vacation next week.
