When Chuck Hagel loses a primary and runs as an independent, then your comparison might be in the ballpark. I mean, what does it mean to BE a democrat except to run AS a democrat.

As it is, it makes no sense.

Come on Zeke, let's not play children's games here. the guy is a Democrat. Has been all his life, is on every issue aside from the war. Let's not play ignorant. He may have run as unenrolled after losing the Democratic Primary, but we all know the guy is truly a Dem in Indy clothing. There is no doubt about it, and anyone who denies this fact is just being a smartass because the guy upset them with his SUCCESSFUL political move.

    This is truly baffling.

Red, you have to run as a Democrat to be a Democrat. Otherwise you're a Republican or an Independent or a Green or a Libertarian or a Whig.

It's the only qualification necessary. But if you didn't win a Democratic primary, you aren't a Democratic Senator.

Zeke, technically you are correct, but you know exactly what I mean and you are just being a donkey.

It's sort of how our system works, Red.

Lieberman, were he a Democrat, probably wouldn't be the most conservative Democrat in Congress. But he's WAY more conservative than the Democrats in HIS district. Which is why he's no longer a Democrat.

After November, he'll likely be an independent who caucuses with the GOP.

So, no, Lieberman doesn't compare to Hagel.

You're absolutely right, he's no Ted Kennedy or John Kerry - thank friggin' God! We have enough of those socialists already.

As to the original point of this thread, if it ain't my boy Joe, I'd still be interested in Colin Powell getting the nod. I think he respects McCain enough to actually consider it.

I'll take that bet. What's your theory on why he would wait?

My thinking was that after the Democrats have a clearer majority, they're going to tell him thanks but no thanks.

Of course, if Harry Reid remains the Democratic majority leader, all bets are off.

What would inject some much needed humor in this race is if Willie C ran went with McCain and ran against his wife, just to piss her off.

But just for our bush lovers, how about Jeb?

As a republican, I probably agree with that... That said, I would still probably feel better if Obama gets the nomination...

Hillary is so polarizing, I could see her having a lot of trouble in the general election, even though I no longer think she's unelectable...

What I find amazing is that of the four leading candidates for President, only one is committed to ending the situation in Iraq quickly. What the hell happened to the anti-war folks? Vocal minority?
