Look, from an official perspective, Lieberman's an independent. From a caucus perspective, he's a Democrat, but he's only a Democrat because he's the difference between having a majority and not. Come next year, they'll throw his ass out.

That said, McCain's not gonna pick him. No way.

And I forgot that about Martinez. Good call. Although if it were possible to pick him and just skip him in the succession order, then we'd be one breath away from President Pelosi. There's something to keep you up nights. ;)

If you're going to do that, might as well go with Arnold.

I honestly think this list stops and starts at Mike Huckabee. McCain needs to shore up the conservative base, and Huckabee has already proven to be a hit on the talk show circuit. Hell, the man is the anti-Dick Cheney personality wise. His campaigning style makes him perfect for McCain's VP slot.

McCain's VP choice will be Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, who's done an amazing job with that state's economy in his two terms.

Riley helps him immensely in the South. And although he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, he's very likeable.

Probably wouldn't want him debating the Democratic VP choice, however.

Huckabee would really blunt McCain's appeal to indies. Really blunt.

    Chuck Norris.

Is McCain pretty much on the way to the nomination with his win in Florida?

Depends. He's pretty low on cash. If Romney wants to dip into his own money and make a ballgame out of Super Tuesday, he still can.

But McCain is clearly the leader now.

And no way the leadership lets him do that.

  11. why, McCain could end up being the closest thing to Eisenhower the younger generations will ever see.

  12. Zeke's bang on about that. Huck also pisses off conservatives like myself, whose biggest quarrel with Bush is his spending.

Colin Powell would be a wonderful choice, and Lieberman would be an inspired one. But I'd be surprised if he didn't go with a current or former governor.
