If the Yankees decide not to bring Torre back, who would make the best replacement?

Think Hargrove has a better chance of being hired than Brenly.

Why not? They've each got a good ring.

Girardi spoke a little bit on the situation during the Fox pre-game, and he's already spoken to several media outlets about the job, but said he hasn't heard from the Yankees. When asked if he'd take the job, he smiled, paused and said something like, "This would be a manager's dream."

I think it's going to be him.

Didn't Mattingly already say thanks but no thanks?

It was reported that he did, but he and his agent vehemently denied it.
And the same guy reported at 3:35 this afternoon that Torre had accepted the Yankees offer!

Sounds like said source is the paragon of journalistic accuracy.

    Thanks for the correction.

Here's a name the Yanks should salivate over: Nick Leyva.

Isn't Tim Johnson available? He might be coaching fall leagues in Vietnam.

George likes him as an individual.

    Hope not, though.

He doesn't deserve to be the fall guy for the pending train wreck.

    LaRussa does.
