"One likes to believe in the freedom of music
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
    Shatter the illusion of integrity"

    Simply outstanding ...

They're equally as awesome. But it's been awhile since they've put anything out, too. Damn music not being what it used to...

    Wilco: What Light
A week ago today I was in Kilkenny's in Davenport, drinking a beer before the Wilco concert. After 280 miles one way. Stayed in the former Mets third baseman across from the Quad City Times offices.
Anyway, the show began with "Shot in the Arm" and took off from there. They played most of Sky Blue Sky, three or four from Summerteeth, three or four from Yankee Foxtrot Hotel, four or five from A Ghost is Born. But, damn, they could have played twice as long and it wouldn't have been too much. They did not play "At Least That's What You Said," which was a disappointment, and there was only one encore. I heard seconhand that the venue had some sort of time restriction, but I don't know if that's true.
Afterward, I closed down Kilkenny's, drinking and talking to a cute schoolteacher who is a regular (nice!). Walking back to the Howard Johnson's, I talked to one of the roadies as they loaded up the second of their two semi trailers. Tweedy was outside the tour bus talking on a cell phone, but I just left him alone.
It was the first time I've seen Wilco since the Summerteeth tour seven years ago. I highly recommend going if you haven't seen them since Nels Cline joined, because the man can flat-out make that guitar (and lap steel) sing.

The smooth rhythmic sounds of the Boston Red Sox hitting the ever living crap out of every Buddy Carlyle pitch tonight. Yikes!

    And, in my head,

    Whip It - Devo!
