Interesting how nobody here says they'd buy a sports franchise with a billion. Which one could you get for that measly sum? The Coyotes?

I’d buy the local Class A baseball club, just to make sure we never lose it again.

Over the years as I've enjoyed my occasional (maybe 5X a year) $1 doses of daydreaming, that's something I've often thought of acquiring were I to win. I think that would be a fun thing to own if you really didn't give a shit about making (or losing) money.

$1 billion is probably on the high end of what I could spend in 30 days, but I still think I could do it.

You know, if you took the billion plus payout, you have about $30m a year for 30 years. I doubt I could spend $30m in a year, let alone keep doing it for another 29. Surprised the winner of the Oregon jackpot came forward after less than a week. I think I'd go underground. Probably hire an attorney to find a way avoid unnecessary tax problems, wait a few months, then come forward when everyone had moved on to something else.

Unless it was one of those "group buys." Suprised nobody has turned that into a TV show - group of people share a big jackpot - drama, fun, legal issues etc. Imagine being linked to some people you work with for life - don't necessarily like in any way - but yeah - suddenly having to deal with that.

Or even better - a message board? Hahahaha. A group of people - anonymous to each other - spilling their guts out - sharing their victories, their life challenges in an on-line community. I've seen worse on TV.

There was a show on NBC in 2006 about lottery winners. The ratings flopped.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Win...ll is an American serial, the rest of the year.

Winner will get $631m before taxes if they take the lump sum. So maybe $420-450m after the guv takes its cut. Nice chunk of change.

That ticket was sold in a pretty sketch PDX neighborhood. So probably whoever bought it, won't be some rich retiree who doesn't need the cash.
