Oh yeah, because rugby is such a tough sport. Anybody who has played American football has played a tougher sport than rugby.

And pro rugby players are pro rugby players because they aren't good enough to play in the NFL.

It is a lot like soccer - the kids who play soccer in America are the ones who aren't good enough athletes to play baseball, football or basketball -- which is why when you go to a typical high school soccer game it is a bunch of small suburban kids who 1/2 step too slow to play football.

Same thing here - rugby players aren't quite big or fast enough to play pro football.

But hey they scream and dance, so they are tough.....

Changing the thread title because the only involvement the NFL has is televising the match at Gillette Stadium.

What chance have you got against a tie and a crest?

I have also been interested in rugby and don't mind watching it even though I have little idea of the finer points of the game or what all the players are supposed to do.

I always figured my old man, a hard-ass Glaswegian street thug, would have been big into rugby or played lots of it because he was big and according to his brother had been a very good athlete (in boxing and soccer) as a youth, but he had no use for it because he said when he was growing up it was the game the rich kids played.

Friend of mine's brother played for the Canadian armed forces team for years.

I've never understood when people take their experience in America and the extrapolate it to the rest of the world. Most rugby players don't play in the NFL because they come from countries where the NFL isn't even a blip on the cultural radar. In New Zealand or South Africa people play rugby because it is one of the most popular sports in their culture. I would guess that most of them don't even know the rules to (American) Football and if they do that they probably learned them off the Madden NFL games.

  9. Match "postponed" until 2014. Doubt it will happen at all.

Because the players are pussies, I'm sure.
