    Yet.

Edit: I thought I was clever, only to see that at least two of you ... you people were more cleverer than I. Shitfuck.

    Re: Trump's foreign policy.
To me the biggest surprise of the Trump presidency is that he didn't get us into a war with Iran.

I can only assume that's because he quickly realized being a wartime president requires actual work, and a lot of it, and so it wasn't worth placating his inner tinpot dictator for it.

We're not going to war with Iran. That'd be Vietnam x 3.

The biggest surprise is that he didn't nuke somebody somewhere. Since his most incisive strategic question has always been, "why do we have nukes if we're not going to use them?"

In retrospect, we might've been served well by staying in Afghanistan and putting some bases in the area near the Xinjiang border — we would've had China surrounded on the east and west. That is, if you're one of the Trumpers who wants to invade China.

We blew our load early and never helped put in place the structural reforms that would be necessary for Afghanistan to get to even a Pakistan-level of democracy. We just killed a lot of civilians and paid a lot of people off.

Trump's foreign policy was basically a contrarian grump frown toward the military. He didn't listen to them to them with any consistency, or at all. By hiring Bolton, he actually neutralized that wingnut; no one who works for Trump in foreign matters ever got anything out of it except a book deal*.

That Trump's childishness produced a not-half-bad outcome speaks volumes about the general worldview and endgame of our defense and intelligence community. But I'll grant those folks great cunning: All of the sudden, because they spent four years trying to kick Trump's ass, they're heroes of the left.

*Minor but compelling evidence of the fetid nature of Trump's presidency was everyone running to cash in on writing a book about being around him. Disgusting.
