Puck was the first truly reprehensible person in reality TV. If he came around now, he'd be filthy rich. Then, third season of Real World, he was an oddity and had some short notoriety.

 

Puck was pretty good in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

I have come to despise reality television, but I watch the first few seasons of The Real World. Puck was an attention whore who thought he could earn fame and fortune by being as repulsive as possible, so it is good to see that he has mostly faded into oblivion.

There were actual interesting people on that show like Pedro Zamora and Judd Winnick. I've always meant to read Pedro and Me, Winnick's graphic novel about his relationship with Zamora, who had AIDS and died not long after his time on the show. This tangent reminded me to go find it and read it today. Winnick has been a fairly successful comic book writer, working for both DC and Marvel.

 

The first few seasons of The Real World actually were quite good, where the residents actually had interests or careers. Eventually, it just became nothing except fighting and sex.

The one that killed my interest was the Miami one where they were going to get $50K if they could come up with a business plan and none of them could agree on anything. Buy a food truck and put it down at the beach and there's your business. Nope.

 

Judd and Pam have been married for 20 years, too.

 

Pedro put a much-needed, loving face to the AIDS epidemic. I also watched the early real worlds.

 

I guess, except that if most people know a cast member from the first five years, despite never watching the show, it's Puck. I never watched The Real World or Road Rules or The Challenge, but the cast members I can name are Puck, The Miz, Alton (my friends were into the show at the time and talking about how dominant he was), and Johnny Bananas (partly because of the name, partly because he's mentioned on a lot of podcasts).

 

I had a thing for Julie from Season 1. She was so real and so naive.
