You forget who you are talking to. Ragu would have cheered on old man Ford’s security goons while they beat up the UAW in the River Rouge strike.

If you want to discuss his column, rather than do that stupidity, happy to.

Rights are not a matter of politicians giving preference to one constituency at the expense of another constituency.

I understand that is the level of discourse in this country today, and that is what we have turned ourselves into, but rights are universal things guaranteed to everyone; they are ethical principles related to what makes someone free.

If the government puts in say, an eviction moratorium -- which actually comes as a result of the violation of the property rights of someone -- it doesn't mean that your rights are violated if another group of politicians come in and overturn the moratorium. And it's not a matter of you having voted away your rights if you voted for that other person.

What he argued about those labor issues being "rights" was absurd, would have been absurd anytime except in the distorted way people now speak. You have no "right" to be employed by someone else, you have no right to stay employed in that job if you refuse to get vaccinated.

As for organizing, sure, everyone should have the absolute right to organize, associate with whoever they want, however they want.

But organizing isn't some magic elixir that gives people leverage they don't have in a labor negotiation.

Without government coercion giving things to one group at the expense of another (which gets talked about as rights, even though you are essentially violating one groups rights to give something to someone else), organizing in and of itself actually does very little for most people. Certainly not if you're easily replaceable and don't have much natural leverage individually or as a group.

Politico will be sold to Axel Springer for over $1 billion - CNN

New York (CNN Business)Axel Springer, the German media conglomerate, has agreed to buy the Washington-based Politico franchise for more than $1 billion.

Politico's tech news sibling Protocol is also included in the deal, which was announced Thursday morning.

Axel Springer and Politico already work together on a joint venture in Europe. Building on that connection, the two sides started to talk in earnest about a deal earlier this summer. The Wall Street Journal revealed the talks earlier this month.

Between Politico's operations in North America, its joint venture in Europe, and Protocol, the company says it employs more than 500 journalists.

Politico's current owner, Robert Allbritton, said he decided to sell because "it became steadily more clear that the responsibility to grow the business on a global scale, to better serve the audience and create more opportunities for our employees, might be better advanced by a larger company with a significant global footprint and ambitions than it could be by me as owner of a family business."

Yeah, well, that and a lot of money.
