Sure? I find it strange that the security of the border is an negotiable prospect. I mean, it is a negotiable prospect, obviously, Democrats. Imagine a mayor saying “I’ll activate the police IF the city council gives me X.”

I find it strange that treating people - even those who grew up on the other side of a border - with love, respect, and compassion is a negotiable prospect.

    Yet here we are ....

OUCH! I have to say, whoever it is that is spooning out these details for "Peril" knows how to up the ante with every bite.

The Lexington Herald-Leader obtained a preview of Peril, the upcoming book from Bob Woodward and Robert Costa that has already produced a multitude of explosive details on Trump’s last days in office. According to the new excerpt, McConnell is encouraging the GOP to move away from Trumpism, calling the ex-president “a fading brand. Retired. OTTB as they say in Kentucky — off-the-track Thoroughbred.”

"A fading brand...." damn, that's going to leave a mark.

So treating people with love, respect and compassion is the exclusive refuge of one political party? The party that's in charge right now? Allowing thousands of people to bake in the sun under an overpass? The current situation with Haitians who said they came to the United States because the current president would let them in is...someone else's fault?

If the person's last name was Rodriguez you'd put it in but not if it were O'Malley?.

Do you want to compare how Donald Trump and the GOP wants to treat immigrants, vs. how Democrats want to treat immigrants? I'll happily start posting quotes ...

    We can:

    - Let them all in (the stance of the far left, I guess?)
    - Let bona fide refugees in in a controlled way
    - Turn them all away (the stance of Donald Trump and the majority of the GOP)

What would you have Joe Biden do?

Where do you see the Republican Party treating people (not just its base) with love, respect and compassion over the last five years?

... over the last 20 years?

Increased funding for something that the other party values is an extremely common bargaining chip, from the town/county level right on up. "I'll vote to fund that park in your district if you'll vote for the senior citizen's center in mine" is Politics 101. The border is a huge political issue for both sides, you think that bargaining chip does not have a lot of weight? Hell, they do that sort of stuff on the legislation for the Pentagon and national defense and on the national budget bills.

I get how every few months the political punditry gets all breathlessly twitterpated about Susan Collins as if she's different than Marsha Blackburn, but at the end of the day she's certainly not and at the end of one day every six years, she's easily re-elected. So saying one thing and doing another works for her and us consumers of political news would be wise to ignore the regular intervals of Collins stories.

This Haitian thing is awful, and these people should be treated as refugees. But as far as your first question goes? I think it's apparent that the GOP does not treat brown and black people, especially ones who want to get into this country, with the first bit of humanity.
