Johnson didn't say he was going to appoint a woman. Ronald Reagan said he would and then he did. You did not answer my question about Sandra Day O'Connor.

And I hate to tell you this, but in America, if you don't actually look at appointing people that aren't white men, then they don't get appointed. In 2022, that is still mostly the truth.

I totally agree with this. I'd like to think that if I were able to nominate a SCOTUS judge, if they didn't have experience in a criminal courtroom (defense or prosecution), trial judge experience and appellate experience I wouldn't even look at their resume. I guess the Supreme Court clerking is important - not too particular on where they went to law school. One of the things I liked about Barrett was she went to Notre Dame Law. We need more breadth in the entire legal process on SCOTUS. Too many are pretty much political hacks who do the bidding of their various constituencies, whether a political party or the supremacy of corporate rule. (I have a general feeling while "hot button" issues tend to get people riled up - the main purpose of the Supreme Court is to protect corporate interests. )

I've ridden this hobby horse here before, but Sandra Day O'Connor was the last Justice to ever hold an elective office. I don't think that's healthy, either.

    Good call. I don't think it means she's averaging a double-double.
Nor does it help her going forward.

It is a typically misleading chyron (all the cable chyrons are defective in some way or another) making reference to the fact that US consular personnel were allowed to meet with Griner for the first time. The actual quote from one was "she's doing as well as could be expected" which is sure a far cry from "doing well."

Otto Warmbier was also supposedly "doing well" and came home in a goddamn coma.

It's real easy for an American citizen to not wind up in a Russian prison.
I have no fear of this.
The odds of it are less than me getting simultaneously struck by lightning and eaten by a shark while cashing a winning Powerball ticket.
