I don't know about Portnoy. But I could certainly see a semi-celeb who is less overtly horrendous than Trump (or Portnoy -- though I'll sheepishly admit to finding some of Barstool's content entertaining) making a strong run. Someone who still appeals (more subtly and insidiously) to white resentment and toxic masculinity but with a more friendly, less obnoxious veneer that draws in those who don’t see themselves as MAGAs or white nationalists. Someone like Joe Rogan or Mike Rowe.

 

I think we are done for a while with teevee personalities getting to skip the line and go straight to the White House. People might be willing to take a flier on a celebrity for Congress or even governor, but they’re going to demand the person they vote for prove they can hit AAA pitching first.

 

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a celebrity as a VP pick once we again have a candidate who isn’t so close to life expectancy.
