I totally understand that and read the story. My point was tongue-in-cheek. You are correct about inflation, etc., and had it been anyone else in the world, it might be a sign of a good deal maker. Donald Trump has a history of hosing contractors. In this particular case, it's more a situation of laying down with a dog and waking up with fleas than Trump being crooked. It's just not surprising he was involved.
It could also be argued that his used his position to bully an American company into making a deal it wouldn't have otherwise made and ultimately hurting American investors when the value of the company drops.

That many (most? almost all?) mainstream Republicans and many (most? almost all?) mainstream Christians refuse to repudiate this guy is heartbreaking.

Most of us came to know Tom Nichols generally as a Never Trumper Republican, but his origins are in Russian-American policy and nuclear war studies. He put up a tweet thread last night that is very concerning.

 

White Christian Nationalism is an enormous threat even if Trump dies tomorrow. The movement has grown way beyond him. That movement is what few if any evangelicals are willing to repudiate by name. Direct your anger there.

 

Well, I just named you two, and they're pretty big.

The wave has already crested. Evangelical churches will empty out over the next five years in record numbers, or they'll move progressively left. Denominations are shifting; deconstruction is a thing.

 

GOP and Christian aren't exactly the same, IMO...and they will really not be the same in 3-5 years.
