Through my academics I am very good friends with several Turkish guys. As young(er) Turks (hah!) we gave one another any amount of shit re: this or that. Their go-to at me was my being a pagan polytheist (the whole Trinity thing). Mine at them was to always refer to Instanbul as Constantinople.

Anyway, every November, right before Thanksgiving, I'll run up on those guys at this big conference we all attend, and inevitably I'll find myself sitting with them (and likely some of their Turkish friends) at the big luncheon. A couple of times I've slipped into "olden days" mode ... the looks I get from their friends! Pretty funny seeing a buncha Turks leaping to the defense of a chubby Episcopalian: "He's only kidding! We've joked around about this for years!"

P.S. I've made a concerted effort to stop. They still give me shit ... when it's just us.
