Yeah — he always was a power hungry egotist. But in the period of time after he made it rich and realized he wouldn’t be President, I think he kind of gave up. Too much to drink seems to have had a lot to do with it. So he stopped being taken seriously by everyone but the Fox News crowd and it’s feedback loop of saying crazier things. He was utterly irrelevant until Trump called on him.

 

That's the problem. Too many people will actually buy into that nonsense from the Republicans. If the Democrats are going to give them this sort of cover in November, they should have at least extracted a higher price.

It’s not a “vision” so much as an observation of what the party used to be. Big tent, spread the wealth around, live and let live, work hard, play hard.

Now, in attitude, it’s closer to a church. and I know churches well enough to know that if you think that churchgoers spend a lot of time policing the outside world, that pales in comparison to the amount of time churchgoers spend policing each other.
