Depends which half of the former United States you’re talking about.

By the way, I’d like to think he was joking - and a pretty large portion of the crowd laughed. But with him, you never can tell. But some reporters should put Jackson and the spot and ask him if he really said that. Because he probably doesn’t know for sure whether Trump was joking or not, and if he treats it like it was a joke and it wasn’t, Trump will be pissed. If he goes along with it and says he really did say it, he comes across as an idiot. Win-win for us either way.
Also, if it was trump joking, do you think his people are telling him to joke in that area to try to get in front of the “trump looks like hell’’ problem. “See, he knows he looks bad and he’s making fun of it too.’’

The Boston accent (ie. the "Your Cousin From Boston" in the Sam Adams commercials -- which is one of the rare examples of an accurate Boston accent I've seen on TV) is very much class-based now. Blue-collar people still have it (not just laborers, but well-to-do business owners in the trades) and some first-generation college-educated people still have it. But you rarely hear it in among younger people (under 50) with college-educated parents or people who grew up here but whose parents are from elsewhere. As far as the upper class "Brahmin" accent -- that's been gone for decades and you'd be unlikely to meet anyone younger than 75 who talks that way, even people from old money (and nobody gives a shit about them anymore anyway as the city itself has become so full of wealthy internationals). And the "Kennedy" accent was only a thing among Kennedys. Nobody else ever spoke that way.

Talking slow buys time to consider your answers. Add that being underestimated is well known to be an advantage in many situations.

It was all Antifa except for the thousand or so Trump True Patriots who were somehow misled by the FBI into entering the Capital so they could be charged as part of a Democrat false flag operation.

And they'd have no chance to get elected today.
Louisiana's Bobby Jindal had the audacity to say the GOP had to stop being "the stupid party." He has been in political WITSEC ever since.
