I was born a month before Carter got elected, so he is the first president I remember, specifically during the hostage crisis. Thankfully, I have no memories of his defeat.

I had a nice teenage crush on Ekaterina Gordeeva. For a couple of weeks in ‘88, I had no problem rooting for a member of the evil Commie Soviet Union team.

My family was Irish Catholic, so of course they were all huge JFK fans. My dad and mother kind of vaguely resembled JFK and Jackie, so I thought a young handsome dad and dark haired mother was just the way things were supposed to be.

I learned to read when I was about 2 1/2-3 years old, and I started reading the papers my copy editor dad brought home for lunch every day. So shortly enough I came to understand that JFK had taken over as president from Ike, who kinda looked like my grandpa.

I very vaguely remembered the 1960 election. JFK came to town in September or so and my dad took me riding on his shoulders to see Kennedy. I don't actually remember it, but my mom took pictures.

I do remember asking my parents during the election if the president was like a king, and they explained the president was supposed to be LIKE a king but every four years the people all decided who would get to be president.

So I asked, "why doesn't the president just get the army so he can stay king?" and mom and dad said, "well, the president isn't supposed to do that."

So at age 2 I had about the same understanding of the US system of presidential succession as Fatfuck has now.

I'm a fourth-generation Detroiter on one side of the family and only a second-generation American on the other. First I remember? Lyndon B. Johnson, baby! First in which I voted: Carter-Ford.

My mother's parents were born in Canada, making them British subjects under the Commonwealth. One of them didn't become an American citizen until after WWII.

    Grandpa Cook, 1889: Queen Victoria(!)
    Grandma Cook, 1901: Edward VII

Grandpa and Grandma Aumann, 1917 and 1913: Woodrow Wilson

    Father and mother, 1935: FDR

    Me, 1958: Eisenhower
    Brother, 1962: Kennedy
    Brother, 1965: Johnson
Sister, 1969: Johnson (9 days before Nixon)

    Sister's youngest kid: Obama
Brother 1's first grand-child: Biden (born on Jan. 27)

Had to do a little digging for grandparents (lost three of four by the late 90s and the last one was effectively gone then too thanks to Alzheimer's)

But all but one were born with Hoover
Mi Abuelo was born under Porfirio Diaz (the second tenure)

Paternal grandparents: FDR (likely. Small chance grandad was born during Hoover’s lame duck months.)
    Maternal grandparents: Wilson and Coolidge
