This AP story is a pretty good explainer about why Trump is facing a possible civil case rather than a criminal one.

NY probe found potential crimes. Why isn't Trump in cuffs?

But I don't know. I'm disappointed. Trump is a criminal and should be arrested and tried as one. There would be a case, and the bit at the end about how everything would be more difficult, just because he's a former President doesn't fly. If he committed crimes, why wouldn't people decide a case that way? If the only reason is that he's a former President, and no other former President has ever been charged with/convicted of a crime, well...then maybe he ought not to have committed criminal acts.

I don't think we should be afraid of Trumpers, not at the expense of Trump not ever having to face the justice process that he deserves to face.

And, even if he did wind up getting off (because of, say, one naysayer/Trump loyalist on the jury), at least he'd have been made an example, sweat it out, and go through it.

Besides, I happen to think the evidence would be strong/clear enough that any jury would actually convict when faced with it all.

Civil cases are easier to prove than criminal cases. Civil cases require only a preponderance of the evidence before a jury. Criminal cases require proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

HOWEVER ... The number of times Trump and his Trumplets pleaded the Fifth in related depositions in civil court can all be used as adverse indications in criminal court.

It's more about the politicians exerting their control over the public than anything.

I hope it passes, just for the hilarity of dry counties having marijuana legalized.

Good for this guy. I think. I suspect Clay Trumpist and other Tennessee klansmen will call this guy a RINO tomorrow for opposing The Official Golf Tour of the Lord and Savior. Then we'll see if he does an about-face. Doesn't he know he's supposed to celebrate the murder of a libruhl journalist who wasn't even Amurrican?

So the former head of Mississippi's welfare system has reached a plea bargain with state and federal officials. I bet Farve does not sleep well tonight.

Latest Texas poll (I know I know POLLS!) but there's some interesting answers in there.

Of course you will totally unsurprised that 54 percent say Texas is on the wrong track -- 42 percent of republicans answered that way -- and yet when it comes to voting, they want to keep the incumbents in charge.
