President Biden repeated his warnings to oil and gas executives about hiking gasoline prices in the wake of the storm, noting that less than 2% of daily production had been affected by the storm.
"Do not. Do not. Do not use this storm as an excuse to raise gasoline prices or gouge the American public," Biden said during remarks while visiting FEMA headquarters.
"America is watching and the industry should do the right thing. I expect them to do the right thing," he added.

Then why aren't gas prices everywhere else skyrocketing too? They are using the same old old "refinery maintenance" excuse.

Crude is below $80 per barrel. Where is the corresponding price drop?

There are some mix changeovers, etc., underway on the Pacific Coast ... that's what's going on with the price changes he's seeing.

Had thought I’d read yesterday that at least a few rigs were being evacuated (presumably because that’s not an instant turnaround in case the forecast bombs). Happy to be wrong, particularly sitting on 2/3 of a tank.

I'm sure there's some of that, too, but the locus of the Oregon stuff is refinery issues (switching over from summer to fall/winter mixes, etc.). At least that's what the news has said. Could be some vast conspiracy, but if it is, AAA is in on it.

Gas does not go up 80 cents a gallon because of seasonal refinery changes to the mix. Especially since the fall/winter mixes are supposed to cost less. Or isn't that why the price rises every Memorial Day, because they are changing to the more expensive summer blend? Or so they tell us.

WTI crude is not below $80 a barrel, at least not at the moment, FWIW.

And the oil price is not the gas price.

There are refineries all over the place that are down right now, especially on the west coast. It's having a really dramatic short-term effect on prices. It really is that simple. Already limited refining capacity that is usually running close to 90 percent is running at close to 80 percent at the moment and that is limiting supply, while demand is steady. That has led to higher prices.

It's all maintenance related. Some of it was planned, but some of it was unplanned.

The wife of a current SCOTUS justice being questioned for her role in an attempt to overturn a presidential election. Never before in American history. Yet another shocking example of the poison Trump has brought to this land.

You call THAT news? We've got the exacta of weather and gasoline prices to bitch about!

So, when the convenient "issues" are resolved, the refineries resume running at 90% and the temporary shortfall ends, prices will revert to what they were before in 2-3 days, right, because it's really that simple?
