I voted for Conor Lamb in the primary. He’s my Congressman (for the next few months). Young veteran.

I remember when Jesse Helms was the "Big Bad" that the Dems used to raise money, he looks like Churchill compared to Greene.

Gas prices are edging down here again. Two to four cents per gallon, but it’s something — and it counters the GOP narrative (not that it matters).

The traditional view is that larger turnouts benefit Democrats more than Republicans, but that theory gets really murky for this year's mid-terms. Politico and 538 are hinting that GOP strength may not be showing in polling, which isn't a surprise given the big misses over the past couple of elections.

The Warnock-Walker race is especially interesting as far as a litmus test to see if big turnouts lean Democratic, "it's the economy, stupid," the typical midterm blowback, any Trump influence, or a combination of everything.

It's small sample size to be sure, but roughly 22,000 adults are potential voters in our county, and over 16,000 voted in 2020. After one week of advanced voting, the county reports 2,134 in person ballots (one being me) and 229 absentee ballots already returned. That's a pretty hefty percentage, particularly for a mid-term election. But I wonder how many of those people (this is a deep red county) were swayed by Trump's "fraud" rhetoric and thought they'd go in person to make sure there was no hanky-panky?

I'm assuming since Trump carried over 70 percent here in 2020 that Kemp/Walker would be close to covering that percentage in 2022, but Warnock's trended better all fall, and the Democrats are finally hammering Walker's family violence history in their latest TV ads. I still think 98 percent of the state's voters made up their minds about that race six months ago, but who knows? Are there Republican voters willing to split the ticket, or is the difference between Kemp and Walker made up of Democrats who just aren't sold on Abrams?

The percentage of people in Georgia who identify as White has dropped from 56 percent to 51 percent in the past 12 years, and even here, it's dropped from 98 to 96 percent. That doesn't necessarily mean "more Democratic voters" but the sheer fact that Atlanta's metro population increases have dwarfed those of the rural red counties has to account for some shift.

We'll see on Election Night if record turnout really correlates into more blue voters to counter Politico/538, at least in Georgia. I still think Warnock beats Walker, but because there's a third-party candidate, I'm not confident that'll he get the 50 percent plus one he needs to avoid a runoff.

I have a bad feeling about next month. I’m also always convinced the sky is falling, though.
