He didn't claim to be Jewish. He claimed to be "Jew-ish." Seriously. He actually made that argument.

I don't think that's what he means. He claims he was just trying to emphasize some Jewish ancestry in his family, which is still misleading, but he flat-out lied to do it. Also, there is real question if the ancestor he was talking about was even Jewish.
