Star, that's incorrect. The Speaker needs a majority of those voting, not an absolute majority of members. So in theory a Speaker can be elected with 212 votes, but McCarthy, never good at math, is ignoring the fact that if the dissident Republicans were to not show up, then Jeffries, not him, would be elected. If he's counting on like 20 Democrats to support his candidacy, then he's delusional. It's serious straw-grasping, but technically McCarthy is not wrong.

 

If it ends up going to Scalise every single Democrat should show up to the session dressed in softball uniforms, "ready for practice ."
