The sad part is that Feinstein still has almost two years left - apparently didn't realize her staff put out a statement. Now if she steps down (or the other thing) Newsome will have to nominate a placeholder given the heavyweights (Porter and Schiff) who have already announced their runs for the seat.

 

I don't envy Newsom if he does have to name an interim. Easiest route, I suppose, would be to name himself and let everyone fight it out for governor.
