If only the rich could opt out. Or donate their surplus to charity!

If only level-headed super-sensible conservatives could be found somewhere, anywhere in government to prevent things like this!

And yes, Edina is the default suburb for clichéd wisecracks about Minneapolis wealth and status seekers. Maybe Minnetonka Beach.

I keep seeing headlines about "Large field of Republicans expected to run . . . " but I can't see it happening. Trump and DeSantis are the 8,000-pound gorillas nobody wants to challenge (publicly, at least).

I also think the "establishment types" are cautioning potential candidate to keep the field small - Trump will win a plurality otherwise. He can still win the nomination if most of the party splits their votes amongst other "not Trump" candidates. Yes, any sitting Senator would be seen as "disloyal" to Trump if he or she ran, but I'm sure a few would run anyway - Hawley, Cotton, Cruz - it actually wouldn't be bad strategy for Trump to recruit a few "goons" into the race to help pile on Hailey and DeSantis - instead of the two on one its going to be.

Part of me fears DeSantis is going to be like that middling college quarterback who by the time the draft rolls around is considered the obvious No. 2 or 3 pick, no matter what the film actually says.

And thus he becomes extremely competitive for being the No. 1 pick.

So we’re going to get Ryan Leaf running for president.

    Take several seats, Clay.

Living in the state that gave us Tammy Faye Blackburn and Governor Short Bus,* I don't feel like I've got much room to talk. Still, it's hard not to look at Florida and root for the sane voters. Hang in there, people.

*Both of whom are perfectly pleasant people if you meet them out of political context. Heck, after meeting her, I'd have coffee with Marsha to giggle over extreme fashion websites. Sad that she's in politics.

I believe Gov. Kinky Boots coopted those lyrics himself in one of his speeches recently. I also imagine Tom Petty is spinning in his grave at the thought of that. Additionally, I have to think that 75 percent of the people in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium that night were DeSantis voters (or non-voters in the case of the student section). If that sounds negative, well, I've been given plenty of reason ...

I was thinking more Akili Smith or David Klingler.

Alachua County went over 60 percent for Biden, but sure the students don’t bother voting. Whatever you need to tell yourself.

Historically speaking, UF was considered the most progressive of the SEC student bodies dating back to at least the late 60s. They may be outvoted by Billy Sam in jean shorts who drove down from Palatka for the game (and also Morty and Mabel who retired from General Motors to The Villages) but there are several generations of degree-holding Gators with liberal views.

Yeah well its never happened before in American history that we had a (former) president who was such a blatant unrepentant criminal.
We've had plenty before who were less than sterling characters, many who've engaged in questionable conduct, probably several who broke laws to varying degree. But never before a shameless unconditional criminal who's made it transcendently obvious he plans to continue all his crimes. Until stopped.

TIL learned that an American President has been arrested, well, sort of. In 1872, a traffic policeman stopped President Ulysses S. Grant for driving his horse and buggy too fast on a Washington street (Grant was to horses what Biden is to cars.) Grant went to court and paid a $20 fine.
