BTW, growing up in Chicago, Democrats were the bourbons of my youth and Republicans like Charles Percy and Richard Ogilvie were the good-government advocates. Mike Royko used to call people like them "goo-goos."

Their ultimate dream is for the SCOTUS to issue a ruling defining full human life as beginning the moment of conception. And they can probably get it.

At that point it'll be guns in the streets.

That was such a big deal where my family worshiped, remember it clearly.

I see pews all the time for free on FB Marketplace or CL.

This "long-term friendship" with Harlan Crow probably started when Thomas was named a federal judge, or a SC judge, because up until then he was of no worth to the Republican party. Once he got into a position of influence, he became as asset to be bribed. So he was bribed.

After he was on SCOTUS. If it's "more than 25 years" instead of "more than 30 years," then they became great buddies after Uncle Clarence was in the position to do the greatest damage. It ain't like they were childhood buddies back in Savannah.

If Thurgood Marshall had just hung on a little longer, Clarence Thomas would still be an appellate hack.

Marshall died four days after Clinton was inaugurated.

The Rupert Murdoch right wing fascist propaganda fire hydrant is quite peeved over left-leaning ProPublica unfairly tarnishing poor Uncle Clarence

Rove and Shrub were fairly ordinary Republican evil. Cheney not so much.

Preventing the R's from holding both houses and ramming through whatever lunacy they want to isn't nothing.

Right, but Alma's 'premise' was "Why didn't the Democrats do something about abortion when they had 50.5 seats in the Senate the last couple years" as if there would have been 11 Republican senators who wanted to end their careers by voting for something that even looked like a vote in favor of abortion.

Or the notion that Democrats should -- unprompted -- initiate legislation that goes against what the majority of their voters if not the majority of all American voters believe. Just to make a deal that that was always going to be eradicated as soon as SCOTUS tipped. Because, you know, the GOP has a long tradition of offering olive branches when it has the majority in both houses. Nobody does that.
