Or maybe, just maybe, progressives look at the data.

There’s nothing to suggest this isn’t real.

The data for what? Fewer murders? That's like the GOP arguing long guns kill fewer people than handguns, and thus aren't as big of a threat. It's language arts with numbers. Long gun murders are awful. Handgun murders are awful. 1,000 murders are awful. 900 murders are awful.

Sure. But it's fewer than a thousand or 2000.

Why People Misperceive Crime Trends (Chicago Is Not the Murder Capital) (Published 2021)

A Pew Research report in 2016 found that “voters are usually more likely to say crime is up than down, regardless of what official statistics show.” For decades, Gallup has asked people whether they think there is more or less crime in the U.S. compared with the year before. The question has been asked almost yearly since 1996, and every year except for 2001 the public — usually by overwhelming margins — has said crime has increased.

I am quite sure she spends very little time in Chicago. This is the typical FNC “cities are lawless hellholes” line they have been spouting for 20 plus years, and countless non-urban politicians for decades before that.

I lived in Jim Jordan’s district and covered him as a reporter for years. That man isn’t comfortable in a town of 1,500 people. He is a paranoid weirdo.
