One of the most facile arguments out there is “You should have voted for someone better.” So much gets decided by fund raising and back room relationships and party machinations before the first ballot is printed. The average American voter has no more influence on the quality of candidates for state and national office than a kindergartner does on the school curriculum.

    Short version as I recall:
    What Does Reduce Crime
    1) More cops
    2) Locking people up
    3) Legalized abortion
    4) The decline in the crack epidemic

    What Doesn’t Reduce Crime
    1) Gun-control legislation
    2) Concealed carry laws
    3) Community policing and other alleged innovations
    4) Aging population

California has that crazy election structure, so she won by a huge, historic margin - but beat another Democrat, Kevin de Leon, for the seat. The best running Republican polled something like 8% statewide.

    Absolutely agree.

But at the smoke-filled-room decision-making level of California Democratic Committee politics - and finding replacement candidates to compete for her seat or cajoling her to retire - it's still at least a little about her porky seniority.

Because we switched to a jungle primary, it was Dem on Dem crime. But the guy she was up against had no state presence. He was an LA guy who rose up in the legislature but wasn’t known. It was unfortunate because in 18, Feinstein’s age was a big deal. But she trounced the guy even in LA County.

The year Arnold ran for reelection after the recall that put him in office, the Democrats threw in some real piece of shit who was next in line and got all the support in the primary. It was the last election Republicans stood a chance in for CA Governor because Democrats shit the bed rather than putting support behind a guy who could compete for the political center. Seems quaint now because any Republican worth anything in California has eyes on the House rather than state office. And the game is rigged against the current version of the GOP because no one in the population centers take them seriously. Their best chance is in Orange County and even that its becoming purple. Kern, Kings and Fresno counties (the San Joaquin Valley) are not enough to counter the coastal counties.

Same could be said of the Republicans as well. Ahrnold was an outlier since he got into office via the recall of Gray Davis. Other than that, I don't recall the last time the GOP ran a candidate for governor who didn't have a serious chance or was a Trump wannabe. Pete Wilson?

Yeah Wilson was the last Republican before the Governator who was legitimate. Since then it was underling in Bush’s treasury department, business woman, business man, and a token Republican from the Oregon border who no one heard of.

That's ok. Between the records of his accessing the secrets, the timing of the releases after that access, forensic examination of his computer, and the screenshots from the Discord channel, they've pretty well got him cold. The espionage act charge is good for ten years and the lesser retention charge is five. If the prosecutor wants to be a hard ass or Texiera acts like a dick, they can probably charge hundreds of documents individually.

They can make him a hero all they want, he's going to do serious time. I seriously doubt that he has any useful information to trade for reduced charges.

If he does this thing goes to another level screamingly fast.

I don't know how you can still be screeching this given that Trump is on ground zero for several federal cases with yet another coming to a boil. ( Jack Smith is subpoenaing staff re fraudulent fundraising on the Big Lie).

Try this thread on, and not just these two.
