Under Roe, consensus was replaced by demonization, and let’s be honest: most in the media prioritized demonization. They stoked division, pitting Americans against each other. No one talks about finding consensus, everyone goes to the barricades and attacks the other side. They’ve taken a sensitive issue that has long divided people into a kind of gotcha bidding war. How many weeks are you for? How many exceptions are you for? And the list goes on

If Trump takes that job, he demands an entire writing staff to come up with his stuff. He might have an off-the-cuff six-minute interview with a buddy of his, but they can script most of it. He likes to play the hits a lot. I could see him being bored by it after three weeks, but he'd also love the platform.

Note: About 1 percent of Americans watched Tucker nightly. In a very fractured viewing environment and given the brand of white nationalism he was tossing out every show, it's frightening and impressive all the same.

 

I also wonder what non-compete he has in his contract.

Seems kind of bizarre - Why do you want to keep 538 around if you're going to sack the guy associated with it? Like when ESPN kept a skeletal Grantland around for a couple months before shuttering it. There's enough time between now and Election 2024 that you can develop a new election-based vertical if you want, and just have 538 redirect to it. (Maybe that's what they do anyway.)
