If you haven't watched the PBS doc on Thomas, make some time for it. It's eye-opening as to (a) how his childhood may have shaped a hatred of black people and (b) what a total pig he allegedly was/is.

Sandwiches realistically could have been President in 2016, but instead of taking Trump on early, he guessed that Trump would get bored, drop out and endorse him. Then he has acted in the strange role ever since of half-supplicant/half-critic. So he’s a man without a constituency.
