Since there is a permanent Republican filibuster of all nominees for the executive branch, requiring cloture on each one, Vance's announcement has no practical effect except to remind folks he's a dick. Tuberville's hold is different because the Republicans have not previously filibustered military promotions.

    That's an excellent piece.

But there were more than two months between the California primary and the convention. Two more months of RFK and his charisma to win people over. McCarty was toast after California, his people, as much as they may have disliked RFK, would have come over because they had one big issue in common, ending the Vietnam War.

RFK wasn't going to win the South, but neither did HHH. He won only four states west of the Mississippi - Hawaii, Washington, Texas and Minnesota (which, of course, is split by the Mississippi). I think RFK could have won what Humphry did, and California, Ohio and Illinois, or 92 more electoral votes. That would have done it.

RFK, on the stump, was remarkable. I think he would have won. Many other smart people disagree.

Mika is OK. She's aging naturally. Katty Kay is the one who's had some work.

Don't laugh, an Australian prime minister literally went swimming in the ocean, was swept away and was never seen again.
