Everything that guy says is true but the "moderate" Republicans don't have the guts to do anything but go along with the party.

<shrug> We'll see. Matt Gaetz might drive them to just lance the boil and deal with it. If it requires Dem votes for McCarthy to retain the Speaker's gavel, you know he'll take them. What they're really worried about is the Farm Bill. That's a great big huge deal for those rural district/farm state R's. If Marge and Gaetz try to leverage that they may find themselves cut off at the ankles. You know that there are a bunch of Republicans who are tired of their bullshit.

Democratic votes for some of those (whether the worst of the bill gets excised or not) is going to highly exercise the Progressive wing of the D's. OTOH, making those compromise votes would be good pub for Dems in some contested districts.

 

There is no such thing as a "moderate" Republican in today's House. They couldn't get five of them to sign the discharge petition for the debt ceiling vote. There are far right Republicans, and there are loony far right Republicans. All the non-Trumpy ones have been winnowed out over the last 3 elections.

 

It's not a matter of guts. MAGA has made it clear that anyone who isn't in lockstep with its agenda, messaging and votes will be censured. Not guts, but professional survival (perhaps personal as well given that SPC has sent the goons before according to the Jan. 6 Committee ... ).
