I know we talked about it a bit in the soccer thread, but how can someone who is "Amurica first!" root against the national team? It's different than when the Warriors or Cavaliers were not invited to the White House because LBJ or Curry hurt his widdle feelings, or the Eagles declined to go. I guess that's his world view, everyone must be a star-spangled dandy and kiss the ring, so to speak.

I wasn't speaking about each person in miniature. (But I'm guessing you knew that.)

A state that grows by 20% over 15 years is not the same as one where the state loses population. (Like Illinois.)

Now, over the next 5 years, maybe millions leave Florida. We'll see. I sure as heck don't live there.

Because "America first" really means white men first. Always.

I was born there and love the place, but no way in hell I'd move there now. As screwed up as Alabama is, and it is massively dysfunctional for certain, it's not run by Bull Goose Loonies the way that Florida and Texas are now. The wife and I talk from time to time about relocating, but damned if we can figure out where we'd go that's not quite so bright red and we'd feel comfortable. Georgia, probably. Not big on snowy winters.

    We'll probably just stay here.

What they used to cipher as "Real America" back when they were using dog whistles instead of bullhorns.

We loved Raleigh except for the blistering hot and humid summers and then the 21-inch snowfall that appeared out of nowhere in March of 2000.

Needed a little more elevation in the summer and a lot farther south in the winter.

And almost a quarter of a million Floridians died in 2020. But more than 350,000 new residents took their place. No matter the politics, Florida is still a hot real estate market (pun intended) for the near future.

Boomers are retiring in massive numbers and the Sunshine State is still high on their list, which means a ton of jobs and new hospitals, grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants and gun shops. The median age is 42.2, or almost four years older than the national average. However, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and West Virginia are more crotchety.

I don't do heat and (especially) humidity well, so Florida and the rest of the South is out for me. No other reason, had good times there visiting, but I couldn't deal with what the Southerners on this board are going through this summer. PS: Maumann. The median age of full-time residents of my Cape Cod town is over 60. Of course now in peak season, it's probably closer to 30.
