The problem with helping McCarthy is that he then takes credit for taming his crazies and preserving the regular order of Congress. No, he couldn't have done it without the D's covering his back. Yes, letting them twist is bad for the country, and I don't look for the Ds to play that sort of hardball - but it could help the R's with the undecideds/moderates come 2024.

 

Then again: How does McCarthy satisfy his MAGA voters if he dares to do something as reckless as “agreeing with a Lib?”

 

You have a series of people who have no desire to govern and “blow it up” is their core belief. McCarthy is so desperate to get and keep his job that he gave those crazies everything which they wanted and shockingly they are exercising their leverage.

 

Yes, tell me more, reason.com, about the soundness of this Court’s decisions.

 

Every voter needs to remember that a vote in a presidential election isn't really a vote for one person versus another. It is a vote for an entire co-equal branch of government. Who your candidate will select to fill executive branch positions is really at stake too.

Biden's team (regardless of ideology) has been competent, scandal-free and doesn't undermine him in the media. Trump's brigade was stocked with grifters and extremists. A second term would bring even worse people, perish the thought. Who would be his chief of staff? Enrique Tarrio?

 

Nothing will help the R’s with moderates, unless the R’s want to become more moderate.

 

Do not help McCarthy at all unless you get the deal to end all deals (him stepping down and getting enough votes for Jeffries, which won't happen). At this point they can shut down the government. It's his fault. It's Matt Gaetz's fault. Good. You're not changing the minds of MAGA fans. They will find a way to blame Biden — or Pelosi or Hillary Clinton or Bill Clinton or Al Gore or the black guy who served two terms as POTUS. Make McCarthy take it raw, no lube allowed.

 

The best part is the restaurant creating a special in his honor -- burger, fries and a double whiskey for $17.78, which is actually a great deal for an airport meal.
