Dems can now make a deal with McCarthy if a majority of Republicans want him back. They can both get Gaetz out of committees, end some of the more embarrassing nonsense and get back to regular partisan back-and-forth. Dems come off looking magnanimous and Republicans can continue their civil war at the ballot box.

    No, it's not the same.

My point is, the data is most likely corollary. I'm arguing college has nothing to do with the higher life expectancy. Wealth does. A much higher percentage of wealthy people get college degrees. That's who captured in the higher number. Most non-college folks are not wealthy. And that's captured in the lower number.

I'm saying the column, in that way, is mostly a canard.

But...if college is causation, OK, let's get way more people to college. Just know you're contending against this kind of thinking:

"We are in a war for talent."

College is framed as a societal good, but it is not practiced as such.

It's practiced as competition. As war.

I suppose that's true, and possible. We make 'em look bad and then get what we want.

Is he going to turn over incriminating information to them to assure he does what they tell him to do?

If that happens, can't Gaetz and others still move to oust the speaker again under current House rules?

I think there is a zero percent chance this will be tenable to the Republican rank and file. Unless a dozen of them are just going to flip and become Democrats or independent, they aren't going to be making a deal with the Ds to elect a speaker. It immediately opens them up to a primary challenge that'll be backed with the full might of the party. I don't think this ultra-hardline R shit goes away until they get their brains truly beat in at the ballot boxes.

    LOL.

There are plenty of welders, HVAC and other tradespeople who took out loans for post-secondary educations. Along with cops, EMTs, CNAs, home health aides and other non-rich folks. Buncha damn Radical Leftists, I guess.

    Couple of assumptions I’m making
    1) Some of these guys are already screwed. They’re either in swing districts or they’re in districts where there’s enough Dems and independents to make a difference. So they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t

    2) Selling out Gaetz isn’t much of a poison pill in some places.

    3) Dems can always swing a deal where enough to put Kevin over the top but not have it be 100 percent. This allows Repubs to swing it however they like.

I’m assuming such a deal would amend procedural rules to avoid this. I could be wrong (see also the Tom Petty thread).

BREAKING: McCarthy won't run again. House adjourned until Wednesday.
