    well, the giant state schools, is where they pop up so much. The ones funded by taxpayers.

    some of the stuff in the Wall Street Journal’s report is hilarious. The University of Oklahoma bought and renovated an Italian monastery for studying abroad - at the tune of $14.3 million.

    The reaction to that story, published in August, was largely crickets. And I think it’s partly because journalists just don’t like writing about how schools blow through money. It seems unprogressive and rude to ask “OK, but why do OU students need to study in Italy? And which students are doing that? And what are they getting out of it other than some fun?”

    Again, I don’t agree that it’s related to life expectancy when wealth is factored in but even if I’m completely wrong - how we do get these millions of people access to better jobs via degrees?

    and if the jobs are the thing…why not just remove the college degree requirement for some of those jobs?

    They could have studied abroad without ever entering a building/facility owned by OU in Europe.
