Yes, but also a lot of non-deadwood middle management. Lot of regulatory compliance (just related to Title IX/Clery Act, etc.) in there, as well as diversity, and managing and promoting research and online options that did not exist 25 years ago. Sometimes bureaucracy does develop organically and honestly.

 

I had an uncle who had that skill with New England. He was amazing.

 

Losing southern accents? I haven’t lived in Alabama more than two years in the last 20, and after 2.5 beers I sound like Hank Williams on methadone.

 

I have family (on my mother’s side) from Virginia. The ones who come visit have a slight but very distinct accent.

When I was in middle school (don’t ask me why it was mentioned) but we got into an argument about the pronunciation of Norfolk. All the Cali kids said Nor-Folk. I (not remotely Southern but heard it pronounced for years) called it Norf’k. They insisted I was wrong for calling it Nor-Fuck. I said, no, it’s Norf’k. It’s how I’ve always heard it.

No one was convinced.

I didn’t think I had a Great Lakes accent my whole life until I moved to West Virginia and people thought I stepped out of the movie “Fargo.”

 

Somewhat astounded that the righty talking heads I check in on from time to time are still full-throated "Dems are evil" and absolutely ignoring the Kevin McC disaster. Considering how much talk radio fanned the flames, poured lighter fluid on intra-party strife - that they are acting like "nothing is happening" is bizarre to me. Talk radio has become so paralyzed out of fear of alienating listeners, they don't want to take a false step. Of course, the listeners depend on the talkers to give them their marching orders so they can keep their legislators in line.

The truth is - the Dems couldn't have dreamed up or executed such a dream scenario if they wanted to - and the GOP is doing it to themselves about a year ahead from needing to defend their edge in the House.
